Mountain Bike Camps *capacity limit: 9 per camp*

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL CAMPS:

What are mountain bike camps?

Mountain biking is riding a bicycle over off-road trails rather than paved roads. Such trails may be narrow and include hills, uneven terrain, and obstacles such as roots and rocks. The camps include a series of group rides, with several mini-clinics included, aimed at progressively increasing rider knowledge and abilities. These camps are aimed towards Trail, XC, and All-mountain Enduro. Many of the same skillsets may then be applied towards advanced clinics, downhill, freeride and jumping. Coaching progression includes the brake modulation, gearing & cadence, safe bike handling while cornering, climbing and descending over differing levels of terrain, and advancing balance work and maneuvers. Trail etiquette and teamwork, and most of all, fun riding our local trails!

Which camp should I sign up for?

Appropriate ages are listed with each camp- there may be some leeway depending on the rider's abilities. All riders should consider attending the first Spring camp, as this will offer a natural progression of both fitness and skills. The number of riders in each camp is limited. Sign up early to ensure coach availability and placement in the camp. PMBIA certified coaching available. All riders must already be comfortable riding their bike and have the required equipment (see below). All riders should also have some experience riding in more confined areas, such as off-road singletrack trails with small obstacles.

Contact us about Junior Coach opportunities! 208-304-3603

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT (none of this is provided for registrants):

  • Mountain bike- suited to your size and abilities. Bikes must be in riding condition and capable of off-roading, professional tune-ups are recommended to ensure: properly inflated tires, appropriate and functioning drivetrain, and well-functioning front and rear brakes, etc. Bikes must be a minimum 20" wheels.
  • NO E-BIKES (sorry, these are not allowed on several of our local trails)
  • Helmet- REQUIRED.
  • Water bottle (mounted to bike or in a pack), pre-ride meal 1-3 hours before start time. Consider packing additional small snacks for along the ride as well as any additional person necessities.
  • Comfortable riding attire that is appropriate for that day's weather condition. Well-fitting, closed-toe shoes, gloves, rain jackets, gloves included in backpack, etc. NO loose shoes, no full-length pants that are loose around the ankles, etc.

**We may have leads on gear that is available to be borrowed for a camp. This is not a guarantee and you should not sign up until you have confirmed that we can connect you with someone who can loan you equipment.

    Sportsmanship Pledge

Parks & Recreation asks everyone to make this a great time for all. Please be a good sport in the stands and on the courts or fields. Respect the officials, other players, coaches and parents by not arguing, being kind and encouraging others. By doing so, you honor your team, the game and the community by showing good sportsmanship.

    Outdoor Sports Weather Policies

    • Lightning: If there is lightning within 6 miles of Bonners Ferry, practices and games are cancelled. This is checked via WeatherBug: https://www.weatherbug.com/alerts/spark/bonners-ferry-id-83805
    • Heat: At 92F practices/games are considered “optional”. This means coaches will need to contact parents and see who is willing to have their child practice/play, if the coach is willing to proceed. If there are not enough kids to practice/play, then that practice/game is cancelled. All participation is technically optional so if you feel it is too hot for your child, please keep them home. PLEASE always send them with plenty of water, cooling towels are nice as well. There will be no practices or games beyond 95F. There are a lot of sites to check temperature, we will be using the following as it shows the time it was updated at and is very current: https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?textField1=48.7&textField2=-116.31
    • Air Quality: All practices/games will be cancelled if Air Quality Index is >150 (anything in the Red zone or higher at https://www.airnow.gov/?city=Bonners%20Ferry&state=ID&country=USA).

    •   If you feel that any weather condition or air quality is not safe for your child, please keep them home from practices or games.

WEATHER CANCELLATIONS WILL BE MADE BY THE SPORTS DIRECTOR- however, coaches can call a game or practice in extreme weather conditions (ex. unexpected lightning storms).

Once the call is made to cancel, there will be no further changes for that day.
